Open lecture: The magic of yeast, membranes and thermal processes
You are invited to a lecture by Päivi Ylitervo, newly appointed Associate Professor in Resource Recovery!
Päivi Ylitervo is affiliated with the Swedish Center for Resource Recovery at the University of Borås. Her research has focused on exploring sustainable biological and thermal processes for biofuel production, nutrient recovery, and waste conversion.
In this lecture, Päivi will share her research journey, which began with studying encapsulated yeast and membrane bioreactors for bioethanol production using lignocellulosic materials. Her work has since expanded to include research on biogas, ash-related issues, and more recently, CO₂ capture, and waste water purification using algae, and the pyrolysis of biomass, including waste water sludge, algae, wood and also plastic. She will also discuss the use of waste streams for sustainable product development, illustrating how her research has evolved across various areas of biotechnology and energy.
The lecture is intended for students, researchers, and anyone interested in how biotechnology and energy contributes to sustainability.
The lecture will be held in English.
