This project explores how discarded baby garments can be upcycled into a womenswear collection, using design references from the Elizabethan era. Our landfills are expanding, and the piles of post-consumer waste continue to grow. One way to deal with this discarded material is to upcycle it into new products with a higher value. The title of this work reflects the two areas investigated - baby garments and the Elizabethan era. To broaden the perspective of what type of discarded material can be upcycled, the areas of investigations are combined. Throughout the study, methods for exploring archetypes from the Elizabethan era were applied to create a reference library used as a base for design decisions. Simultaneously, discarded baby garments were collected and upcycled to give the material a new purpose.
