Nuno Garments
Year 2021

Nuno Garments explores one piece garment construction, by the technique of Nuno felting, in order to present a novel idea for usage of Swedish waste wool.

When the terms of garment and shrinkage meet it is most often in an undesirable matter. Within this work, the force of shrinkage is explored as a concept for creating form. Working from solid pieces of fabric this work will take place within the field of one-piece garment construction. How can shrinkage be used to make a flat piece of cloth translate to a garment? The technique of Nuno Felting will be used to enable this and the force of shrinkage will be Swedish waste wool.

This work started with the reporting of the 1100-1400 tons of Swedish wool that each year is being buried down or burnt up as a waste product from the Swedish meat industry. Wool with bad spin-ability but nevertheless a high shrink ability.

This work questions the conventional way of constructing garments as well as it is presenting a novel idea for usage of Swedish waste wool. The result presented can be viewed as one interpretation of how this concept can apply to the field of Fashion Design. Further, it proposes a conceptual foundation for further development within the field.
