Wireland

Chiara Tschunke

Wire as a transformable material for interior objects. Wireland is material-led research that investigates the potential of metal wire as both a structural and aesthetic material in woven textile objects.

At its core, it explores how unconventional and overlooked materials, such as discarded insulated wire waste, can become central to the creative process through interdisciplinary material collaboration. Rather than treating material limitations as obstacles, the project embraces them as drivers of innovation. The restricted palette of pre-colored wire evolves into a vibrant design language, while the unique physical properties of metal inspire new approaches to textile structures.

Through a hybrid methodology that merges traditional handweaving with advanced multi-layer weaving technologies, Wireland navigates the intersection of craft and innovation. The result is a collection of five interior textile objects, grouped into soft, mixed, and rigid compositions, that reveal new possibilities in materiality, transparency, and transformation
