Digital Garden - Designing floral patterns for textiles using Adobe Substance 3d designer

Eleanor Smart

Initially inspired by the work of still life, floral Dutch renaissance artists and imagined through the 3d design software Adobe Substance designer.

This project explores how an unconventional design tool can be evolved and adapted for textile design through abstract floral patterns. Colours are challenged and subverted to match the abstracted floral patterns created using this software. Pattern scale and fabric choices have been carefully chosen with the body in mind, however the patterns in themselves also call to bold interior textiles. This project has been realised through both digital and transfer printing techniques to maximise quality and colour. The blending of the abstract forms created in Substance and traditional floral motifs results in a unique collection of patterns.
