Colour Visions

Emma Burzynski

Through their three-dimensionality, digital jacquard woven textiles have the ability to add layers of sensorial richness to how one experiences patterns and imagery.

Building from the foundational research into digital jacquard weaving with CMYK colour channels published by Frankie Ng and Jiu Zhou in 2013, as well as the emotive principles of impressionist painting, this project seeks to challenge the methods designers use to extract colour information from digital images. With the investigation into methods of colour channel separation, structure layering, and colour assignment, the weavings produced within this project offer a case study of how the developed experimental design techniques produce expressive results.
