Garden of Tactility

Juliët Zuurman

Exploring woven textures and tactile experiences As we drift further into a digital world, I seek to reclaim the joy of touch—the spark of curiosity when hand meets fiber. ‘Garden of Tactility’ explores the Biblical creation story through a tactile lens, using jacquard weaving as a medium for narrative expression.

The collection is an invitation to rediscover the significance of physical 3D woven textures in our understanding of the material world through tactile experiences. Materials such as shimmering (dead stock) Lurex yarns, rigid monofilament, fluffy filing yarn and reactive shrink materials form playful contrasts for a sensory exploration.

The final results are a translation of written text, the seven days described in Genesis, into seven woven textured textiles with a design focus on haptic and visual qualities. The visual elements act to lure(x) the visitors into touching the textiles and therefore the project sparks visual tactile joy.
