Unraveled in Time

Kristian Falden

“Unraveled in Time” emerged from a visit to the exhibition Oh God by Jim Lyngvild, where generative AI collided with the fantastical world of Hieronymus Bosch. The uneasy blend of Renaissance realism and surreal illusion lingered. From this, I began constructing my own imagined landscapes feeding the AI generator Adobe Firefly with detailed prompts inspired by Bosch’s painted visions, intertwined with my own photographs of butterflies. The resulting motifs felt both ancient and alien.

These butterfly hybrid forms were cut and arranged on a grid shaped through
the draping of fabric an intuitive mapping of where the prints would fall. After
sublimation-printing, the motifs became anchors for a slow unraveling. Threads
were carefully removed around each butterfly, preserving their form as the surrounding fabric dissolved.

This process revealed a second, hidden layer light, transparent, and tense.
The final works exist between textile and sculpture, image and absence.
Cascading threads suspend time, offering a glimpse into a world quietly
unraveling.
