The Labyrinth, a labyrinth

Kristina Breitholtz

The motive of this work is to explore how conversational patterns - thanks to their narrative qualities - can be used as a type of storytelling and that the narrating aspects of the prints can be enhanced by the way the patterns are repeated.

This exploration combines the storytelling potential of conversational print with the opportunity for changing expression that is achieved by multidirectional and tunnel repeats. The multidirectional repeat is used to enrich the conversational pattern by letting the story told in the pattern grow, like a labyrinth, in unexpected ways. The chosen subject for this exploration in conversational pattern design are the mythological themes surrounding the labyrinth and the minotaur.
