EXIT21 – an innovative digital graduation party!
2021-06-11
Usually, the graduation event known as EXIT means that the Textile Fashion Center and Borås Congress Centre are both filled with throngs of curious visitors and proud friends and relatives. This year, most things are done digitally – but the event was perhaps more ambitious and impressive than ever! As usual, the Fashion and Textile Design students arranged a fashion show and exhibition at the Textile Museum of Sweden, albeit in new formats.
Fashion design students held digital fashion show
The new, digital format for the fashion design students' show was completely new for this year's EXIT. Boasting a lavish media production, students showed off their creations – something that has several benefits.
“We have really had to think anew, which had pros and cons, of course. A positive aspect is that the stress usually felt behind the scenes with a live show decreased as the show was recorded instead, making it possible to correct any mistakes. It is also a benefit that the material is more permanent, which is positive for everyone,” said Alice Gruvander, a student and Project Leader within Fashion Design.
Material Meetings – the textile design students' graduation exhibition
The graduating students in Textile Design inaugurated the graduation exhibition called Material Meetings on Friday. This year's focus is on the innovative use of different materials.
“As Project Leader, it has been important to develop a good exhibition format for Material Meetings. As a student of Textile Design, it feels important to show off the creations and exhibit them to show the value of the textiles. It's not just like showing a product and then moving on to the next thing,” emphasised Alberte Holmø Bojesen, Textile Design student and Project Leader for the exhibition.
The exhibition was launched digitally, but can also be visited physically at the Textile Museum of Sweden between 4 June – 19 September. Parts of the exhibition will then become a part of other exhibitions, such as Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
New website with the design students' work in focus
This year, a new website has also been developed, where students from the Department of Design publish their portfolios.
