2023-02-24
An honorary doctorate is an honorable award, which is given to people who have made a particularly significant contribution to the development of the institution. A common denominator for both Anne Ludvigson and Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė is that they both participated in the interdisciplinary project ArcInTexETN, which connected junior researchers from European universities with industrial partners with the aim of strengthening the foundations of future design for a sustainable life. The project was coordinated by the Swedish School of Textiles and was carried out within the framework of the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Part of Horizon Europe, the MSCA are the European Union’s flagship funding programme for doctoral education and postdoctoral training of researchers.
Efforts for lifelong learning
Anne Ludvigson has been Chair of the Board of TEKO, the Swedish trade and employers’ association for companies working in the textile and fashion industry, since 2013. She has made significant efforts to modernise and invest in research infrastructure, for the Swedish School of Textiles in general and the Textile Material Technology research group in particular. She has supported cutting-edge research and innovation as well as education at all levels. Through her family business, AB Ludvig Svensson, Anne Ludvigson has for a long time been an important and valued partner to the University of Borås. She has participated in several projects linked to the textile industry's need for change such as ArcInTexETN and not least in an ongoing project that aims at flexible and lifelong learning in textile technology. In the project, programme students, alumni, and professionals are integrated into the same courses. Through the company, Anne Ludvigson has long supported the development of the field of Smart Textiles.
Anne Ludvigson is being appointed Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Textiles and Fashion.
Developed the artistic area
Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė is a textile artist, professor at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and Chair of the Lithuanian Artists' Association (LAA). She is part of the steering committee of ArcInTex, a network of European universities collaborating in architecture, textiles, and interaction design. Since the network was initiated by the University of Borås in 2012, Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė has had a very important role for the university's internationalisation within the textile artistic field, not least in the borderland between art and design. The university places great value on her participation in developing and deepening this internationalisation in education as well as research. Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė participated in the project application for ArcInTexETN and during the project 2015–2018 was responsible for the participation of the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė is being appointed Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts in Textiles and Fashion.

A longer article about the university's new honorary doctors will be published later this spring. Anne Ludvigson and Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė will each give an open lecture at the beginning of May. They will be appointed honorary doctors at the Academic Ceremony on 5 May 2023.
Honorary doctors are appointed by the Research and Education Board and the Artistic Research and Education Board.
