Focus on chemical management in the external environmental audit

Among the suggestions for improvement was the importance of conducting an energy audit at the university. The purpose is to meet the EU’s Energy Efficiency Directive, which is to be adopted into Swedish legislation in 2025.

Other suggestions for improvement include that the university should clarify that it has managed and identified risks linked to climate change within the framework of its environmental management system. The purpose is to meet future additions to the standard, where climate change will be given more prominence; to break down the environmental goals to make it easier for employees to live up to the goals; to set requirements for suppliers when procuring machines; and to install a forced ventilation in technical lab E210 to be able to quickly remove nitrogen gas in the event of a leak.

Three minor non-conformities were noted. These are:

  • Spray paint cans for teaching graffiti painting and hazardous waste management (bottles had been recycled in the container designated by Borås City near the graffiti wall, editors note). These cans must be reported to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and must not be disposed of with general waste.
  • An unmarked bottle with unknown contents in the Test Lab at the Swedish School of Textiles. Packaging, bottles, etc. must be labeled according to CLP Regulation.
  • In three first aid kits, the eyewash bottles were out of date. Procedures for keeping eyewash bottles updated are needed.
