What is Primo Research Assistant?
Primo Research Assistant is an AI-driven tool integrated into Primo that helps explore academic content through questions posed in natural language. The tool uses the library's electronic collections and the entire Primo index to find the most relevant documents and extracts the key information from the top five sources to answer the question.
How does Primo Research Assistant work?
A question posed in natural language is converted into an OR search in Primo. The five results that best match the search are selected, and a summary with source references is presented. A set of related questions is displayed below the sources to complement the original query. A link to Primo is available to send the question to Primo for additional results.
Tips for formulating good questions
For the best results, it is important to ask clear, detailed questions about academic or scientific topics. Formulating the question as specifically as possible makes it easier for Primo Research Assistant to find the right material. The homepage includes examples of well-formulated questions.
Language Support and Limitations
Questions can be asked in both English and local languages. Answers are generated in the same language as the question, but the referenced sources are primarily in English. Note that certain types of materials, such as peer-reviewed articles or sources from specific time periods, cannot be filtered directly. Each question is treated as a standalone query, so follow-up questions are not supported - ensure all relevant information is included in each question.

To use the service, log in to Primo via the Research Assistant in the top menu or the widget in the results list.
