The university falls in climate ranking – increases emissions from air travel

This was closely followed by KTH and the University of Gothenburg in the Climate Students’ comparison between the years 2022 and 2023.

On a positive note, the university has set goals to reduce business air travel. In the ranking, the university received points for setting a goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent by 2030, a goal also set by Lund University and KTH.

“In the statistics, we see that air travel has slightly decreased over a few months this spring, but it is too early to say what the outcome will be at the end of the year. However, work is ongoing to reduce air travel,” said Maria Westerlund, Administrative Oficer for the university’s environmental management system.

There are also other environmental aspects that the university needs to review, such as ongoing work for energy savings and exploring opportunities for students and staff to commute in an environmentally friendly way.
