Students from the Swedish School of Textiles finalists for the Loro Piana Knit Design Award 2025

This year’s theme challenged participants to experiment with blending linen, a material traditionally associated with summer, with warmer yarns such as wool and cashmere. The aim was to create a garment or silhouette with a seasonless, versatile, and unexpected knitted expression.

Inspired by their cultural backgrounds, Margot being from Normandy, France, and Jonas being from Dalarna, Sweden, they created a design where the traditions of linen were combined with the warmth and softness of wool.

“It was fun to work on the project alongside our studies and to develop the technique in a playful and natural way,” said Margot Leverrier.

They describe the competition as a valuable experience, where they learned how to present their ideas to industry professionals and how to align their own design vision with an established brand identity.

“We learned a lot about collaboration, and how to go from working independently to finding a shared expression without losing our own identity,” said Jonas Gustavsson.

The Loro Piana Knit Design Award emphasisaes innovation and sustainability in knitwear and textile design. Their participation reflects the strength and relevance of the educational programmes offered at the Swedish School of Textiles.

“We are proud to have had the opportunity to showcase our values of sustainability and innovation on an international platform,” concluded Margot Leverrier.
