Increased support for language editing
2025-03-17

A review was recently carried out of the need for editing and of the Faculties’ procedures and resources as well as to identify needs, strengths, and measures to be taken. The review also includes guidance for university managers to direct financial resources to editing and to facilitate the use of the university's internal resources.
“Clearer guidance and templates now facilitate the use of the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency's framework agreement for language editing. We have also developed a new process for doctoral thesis printing in which the Communications Office offers proofreading of the thesis title, back cover text, and summary/abstract (in both English and Swedish),” said Eva Medin, the university's Language Specialist who also coordinates information about language editing.
Writing retreats and workshops
“The Communications Office offers support to doctoral students and researchers in their academic writing in the form of workshops, drop-in times for language editing, and resources on the website. Together with Grants and the Innovation Office, we also arrange regular writing retreats for the university's doctoral students and researchers. The next opportunity is in May, and registration is now open for those who are interested,” said Eva Medin.
“AI tools are something that can be useful in many ways when it comes to both writing and editing academic texts. However, there are pitfalls to consider,” she said, referring to more reading about this on the employee website. “In consultation with the University Library, the Communications Office has created a website with tips on AI writing tools including guidance on information security as well as information about guidelines from the EU, funders and publishers, and more,” said Eva Medin.
The government framework agreement is being reviewed
The Cmmunications Office is participating in the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency's reference group for the new procurement of framework agreements for translation and language services. The aim is to improve the framework agreement so that it better suits the university's needs. At the same time, work is also underway to simplify language editing at the university in other ways.
Feel free to contact the Communications Office if you have questions about editing.
