Work with us at the Faculty of Police Work
The Faculty of Police Work is a workplace where we aim to educate police officers who embody a strong connection between intellect and empathy. We do this on the basis of our core values and the keywords engagement, learning, and participation.
Our staff of over 110 consists of academic teaching staff as well as and police teaching staff employed by the Swedish Police Authority but based at the Faculty, as well as technical and administrative staff.
The Faculty has two departments:
- Department of Police Education
- Department of Police Work
The educational programme takes place on the university’s campus and in the police programme's state-of-the-art training environments on Sagagatan and Guttasjön. The Faculty is a young organisation, defined by strong growth and extensive development. Today, the entire Faculty has over 760 students. Fully grown in the spring of 2028, the police education programme alone will have around 960 students.
Our main field of study, police work, examines the subject matter, theories, methods, and practices that underpin policing. The main field of study rests on an academic, multidisciplinary ground and is at the interface of social sciences, behavioural sciences, medicine, technology, and the humanities. Law, criminology, psychology, and political science are particularly important components. Police work involves policing skills which are based on proven experience and, increasingly, scientific studies.
Collaboration between academic and police expertise
In police education, we integrate theory with advanced skills training. This means that teachers with policing skills as well as teachers with academic skills work together in all aspects of teaching. We alternate police exercises, skills training, and field studies with science-based teaching.
