Saad chose programme based on his interests in business and fashion
Why did you choose to study the Bachelor’s programme in Textile Production and Innovation?
“I have always been interested in fashion and this programme interested me because it allowed me to gain a well-rounded perspective on the different processes and other factors contributing to the clothing and textile industry as a whole.”
What do you think are the most interesting or important parts of your programme?
“The labs are an engaging experience and are my favourite part of the programme. I believe it's important to actively seek out information regarding the textile industry whether that's from course material or other sources such as video documentaries or magazines etc. as it helped me form more solid concepts regarding my courses.”
What career opportunities will you have after your studies?
“This programme will give me flexibility in my career path like using my textile knowledge for research and development on new textiles, or working with product development. Textiles are prevalent in a lot of industries, and I like the versatility aspect of it.”
What do you dream about doing in five years?
“I want to use both of my interests in fitness and fashion and connect them together to start up a business. My goal is to use the knowledge I gain from this programme to create a sustainable sportswear brand that not only focuses on style but also environmental consideration and product longevity.”
This programme only accepted Swedish students this year – but next year it will accept international students – how do you think that will contribute to the programme?
“I feel like larger classes with people from different cultures will not only add diversity and new perspectives on the programme but also make seminars and class presentations more fun and engaging.”
What did you study before, and where?
“Previously in Pakistan, I studied business and economics in A-levels, better known as the Cambridge system.”
Why did you choose to study in Borås and at the Swedish School of Textiles?
“My interests in business and fashion were the main reasons that led me to discover the University of Borås. As well as the city being relatively close to Gothenburg, where I live.”
How did you find information about the Swedish School of Textiles and the Textile Production and Innovation (TPI) programme?
“During my search for programmes aligning with my interests. I read more about the different textiles programmes online and TPI seemed like the most appropriate choice for me.”
What tips do you have for those considering applying to the same programme as you?
“If my advice ere narrowed down to one word it would be ‘balance.’ The key to having a good three years in the programme is to keep up with assignments and projects as well as hanging out with friends and participating in events on and off campus. The way I do it is prioritising my studies first and having fun later.”
What is the city of Borås like as a student city?
“Although I spend very little time in Borås as I commute from Gothenburg on a daily basis, I enjoy the different art and statues representing the rich textile history throughout the city. The city centre is very quaint, and everything is accessible from the university, which is always a plus.”
Where is your favourite place on campus?
“The library building intrigued me from my first day, with the Lazy Student statue outside as well as the whole layout of the building. It is the place I spend most of my time when I don’t have classes, or I need to get some deep studying done.”
Why should people study at the Swedish School of Textiles?
“For anyone interested in the fashion world, the university offers students resources to delve deeper into their interests through the labs, extensive access to books and journals through the library as well as the various social events throughout the year.”
