Evaluation criteria for CVS research grants

1) Relevance in relation to the CVS focus areas or the specific theme of the call (1-5)

  • To what extent does the project focus on the focal areas that the CVS is to analyse?

Alternatively:

  • To what extent does the project focus on the research themes requested by CVS in the call?

2) Relevance in relation to the CVS area of activity (1-5)

  • To what extent does the project focus on "the opportunities and challenges that the modern welfare society faces in terms of governance, organisation, and management?"
  • To what extent is the project sufficiently "university-wide and "interdisciplinary"?
  • What potential does the project have to contribute to the CVS goal of "a development of knowledge that can influence and change the future towards a socially sustainable welfare society"?

3) Scientific quality and originality (1-5)

  • To what extent is the overall research problem clearly described?
  • To what extent is the project plan sufficiently clear in terms of:
    a) the purpose of the project? 
    b) the questions to be answered? 
    c) what is to be done (method) and when (timetable)? 
    d) how to interpret the data in relation to theory and previous research? 
  • What potential does the project have to 
    a) apply new perspectives to the area to be studied? 
    b) increase knowledge in this area?

4) Implementation (1-5)

  • To what extent is the implementation plan realistic (e.g. scope of the task in relation to time and budget)?
  • To what extent does the project take sufficient account of both scientific and popular science dissemination of results?

5) Social relevance (1-5)

To what extent can the results of the project have a social impact? 

6) External partners (1-5)

To what extent are external partners beneficial to the project and to the fulfilment of its objective(s)? (consider any co-funding in time or money that could benefit the research)  

7) Competence of the research group (1-5)

To what extent does the project team have sufficient credentials in the field to carry out the research task?

8) Overall assessment of the quality of the application (1-5)

This criterion is a summary assessment of the whole application which is not necessarily an average of the above, e.g. assessment criteria 1, 2 and 3 may carry more weight than the other criteria.
