Nurses have a key role in the preparedness for and care of patients during disaster medical interventions. In Sweden, the course of events in recent years, such as gang crime, terrorist attacks, the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, has increased attention to nurses' competence in facing different types of disasters. The National Board of Health and Welfare has previously published a report in which they described detailed knowledge and skill objectives for training and exercises in disaster medicine. At the same time, a previously published Swedish study shows that nursing students perceive themselves to have insufficient knowledge in disaster medicine. For this reason, the purpose of this survey is to investigate the extent to which nursing education at basic and advanced levels in Sweden conducts training in disaster medical preparedness and civil defense.
