In July 2023, the job title of assistant nurse became a professional protected title. The protected title primarily aims to ensure the competence of the professional group. Additionally, expectations from the group are that the status of the profession will increase

Assistant nurses constitute Sweden’s largest professional group, which also has the highest rates of sick leave in the country.

The overarching goal of the project is to examine how the protected professional title affects the assistant nurse's work situation, health, sick leave, workability, and the status of the profession.

Through this project, we have a unique opportunity to study the consequences of the protected professional title.
