Existing range of “external sanitary protections" (carried out of the body) is essentially disposable pads which are expensive, why non-functional alternatives such as rugs often are used. Reusable sanitary pads made of cotton are also available. However, these are not always safe against leakage and due to the slow drying process not always hygienic as microorganisms grow rapidly in moisture. The latter is a problem in poor and congested urban environments. The menstrual cup is made of silicone and reusable for up to 10 years. However, inserting a protection inside the body is to a low degree accepted by younger girls and also not allowed in certain cultures.
