The project addresses the low circularity in the textile industry by developing innovative methods such as a standard method for measuring spinnable fibre versus impurity content, better opening of shredded tufts, reintroduction of crimp on recycled fibres, and reduction of fibre-metal friction.
The ultimate goal is to produce high-quality yarns from recycled cotton fibre blends and promote a circular model of production enhanced by several machine learning strategies. The project will result in significant energy savings, reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to a more sustainable textile industry.
