The streetlight effect affects us all

Scholarly publications’ data is routinely used in the evaluation of research institutions and researchers, as well as in bibliometric research. This data is collected both locally (DiVA) and globally in large databases such as Web of Science and OpenAlex. Drawing on theories of classification, the project works with the following research questions:
Where is data? The field of bibliometrics have had access to lots of already collected data during a long period. How is this visible in what data is used and where it comes from?
How is data? When creating data there is a selection process, what to translate into data and not. Also a certain variety will exist as data are colleted from different sources. This will affect studies and evaluation based on this data.
What are the data? Building on how data is created this third question further investigates what becomes data, and what does not.
