Håkan Sundell is an associate professor of computer science and works as a teacher in informatics and conducts research in everything from artificial intelligence to parallel and distributed systems. Håkan holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Gothenburg in 1996, a PhD in Computer Science from Chalmers University of Technology in 2004, was admitted as Associate Professor in Computer and Systems Science at Stockholm University in 2013, was admitted as Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Skövde in 2013, and was promoted to Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Borås in 2017.

Håkan is the research group leader for the research group CSL@BS and is the program coordinator for the System Architecture education. Since 2006, Håkan has had a position at the University of Borås, originally as a senior lecturer but has also worked as head of the Department of Information Technology during the years 2015-2017 and had various other assignments, for example as chairman of the education committee during the years 2018-2022. Håkan has developed over 30 courses and been the course coordinator for over 100 course implementations. Since 2009, Håkan has participated as main and/or co-applicant in several externally funded research projects (VR, SSF, KKS, HUR) and has also been externally engaged as an opponent, grading member, expert evaluator and more. Håkan has been a main supervisor for doctoral students since 2012, and supervised one doctoral student the whole path to a doctoral degree.

Håkan has over 40 years of experience as a programmer and is mentioned as a pioneer in Swedish computer game development (via a witness seminar at the National Museum of Science and Technology). He also has business experience as chief programmer in game development (1995-96), computer consultant in support systems and methods (1997-99), and as self-employed in the computer field (1996-97, 2006-).

Best Paper Award at the 17th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing (IPDPS) 2003, sponsored by IEEE and in cooperation with ACM.
