Docent Associate Professor
Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business (including The Swedish School of Textiles)
— Department of Business Administration and Textile Management
I currently work as an Associate Professor (Biträdande Professor) in Textile Management and hold the title of Docent in the same field. My research focuses on the theoretical and applied analysis of textiles, specifically in the areas of system-level modeling of textile systems and analytical modeling of textile materials.
In the research axis of system-level modeling, my work focuses on exploring the dynamics of textile processes and value chains. I am interested in developing insights, predictive analytics, and decision-making tools, offering deeper insights into the behavior of textile systems from both micro (e.g., company) and macro (e.g., sector) perspectives. Within this axis, I examine topics such as traceability and circular flow/circular business models within the textile sector. My approach is rooted in data-driven methodologies, leveraging techniques such as discrete event simulations, artificial intelligence, deep learning, data mining, system dynamics modeling, and graph theory to systematically explore the intricate behavior of textile systems.
The second axis of my research is centered on the analytical modeling of textile materials, particularly focusing on random fiber assemblies. I am particularly interested in understanding the complex interactions among various structural parameters that influence and govern material behavior. My focus is on exploring these interactions through micromechanics and stochastic modeling approaches to gain deeper insights into the fundamental behavior of these materials under diverse conditions. Within this research axis, I have contributed to the development of several analytical models that address key properties such as compression and tensile behavior, piezoresistive properties, hydraulic characteristics, and auxetic behavior of materials such as nonwovens, electrospun materials, absorptive glass mats, carbon nanofiber assemblies, and carbon nanotube buckypapers.
My research has been published in several leading journals including Journal of Manufacturing Systems, Computers & Industrial Engineering, International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, Systems, Stats, Applied Surface Science, Carbon, Journal of Power Sources, Textile Research Journal, Mechanics of Materials, Journal of Material Science among others. Additionally, I actively contribute as a reviewer for several journals. I am currently serving as an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE. Furthermore, I am a member of the editorial board for Advanced Materials & Sustainable Manufacturing.
I have been, and continue to serve as Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), and researcher in several projects funded by prominent funders such as the Swedish Innovation Agency (Vinnova), Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development (Formas), EU - Eramsus+, EU - HORIZON/H2020, EU - The European Social Fund (The Swedish ESF Council), The Swedish Institute (SI), Sparbanksstiftelsen – Sjuhärad and Stiftelsen Svensk Textilforskning – TEKO.
I hold a PhD from the EU-funded Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programme -- Sustainable Management and Design for Textiles (SMDTex), an interdisciplinary doctoral program with research mobility across Université Lille 1 – Sciences et Technologies (France), University of Borås (Sweden) and Soochow University (China). The doctoral degree is recognized in the fields of Automation and Production at Université Lille 1 – Sciences et Technologies, Engineering at Soochow University, and Textile Management at the University of Borås.
Prior to my PhD, I earned a Master of Technology (M. Tech.) in Textile Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), India, following a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) in Textile Engineering from Himachal Pradesh University (JN Govt. Engineering College), India.
