Erasmus+ Teaching at a partner university in Europe

Erasmus teacher exchange

Teaching staff at the University of Borås have the possibility to receive an Erasmus grant to be able to teach at a partner university in Europe. The receiving university needs to participate in the Erasmus cooperation and have an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), and a bilateral agreement between the universities is required. To take part in an Erasmus+ teacher exchange you must be employed at the University of Borås.

The main objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme - Teaching Assignment are:

  • Encourage higher education institutions to broaden and enrich the range and content of the courses offered
  • Allow students that cannot go abroad to benefit from the knowledge and expertise gained by the staff that have participated in an exchange programme ('internationalisation at home')
  • Promote exchange of knowledge and expertise in terms of pedagogical methods
  • Create bonds between higher education institutions and organisations
  • Motivate students and staff to become more mobile and assist them in preparing a mobility period

Which are your opportunities?

Approved activities are connected to teaching at first, second, as well as third-cycle courses and programmes, with the teacher being present at the receiving university. For example:

  • Lectures
  • Seminars
  • Supervising individual students' works
  • Examination

A teacher exchange shall consist of at least 2 consecutive days and maximum 14 days.

A teaching activity has to comprise a minimum of 8 teaching hours/week (or any shorter period of stay). If the mobility lasts longer than one week, the minimum number of teaching hours for an incomplete week should be proportional to the duration of that week.

If the teaching activity is combined with a training activity during a single period abroad, the minimum number of hours of teaching per week (or any shorter period of stay) is reduced to 4 hours.

Funding

The Erasmus grant will be transferred to your academy/department at the University of Borås after the exchange. The amount depends on the number of mobility days (max. 14), travel days (max. 2), which country you travel to, and whether you have special needs. This means that the Erasmus grant is a financial contribution that may not cover all costs associated with the exchange.

Application procedure

If you are interested in going on an exchange, contact your nearest manager in due time. Think about what you would like to do and where you would like to go by choosing from the list of the university's partner universities, get in contact and ask about an opportunity to teach. We strongly suggest that you involve the international coordinator at your faculty in the process, but please note that you are the one responsible for contacting the partner university and arranging your exchange.

To apply, contact exchange@hb.se and ask for the application form for Erasmus+ teaching assignment, which should be signed by yourself, your nearest manager and an international coordinator. Send the completed form back to exchange@hb.se , and if you receive a positive reply you will also get the subsequent instructions for receiving the grant.

We accept applications during the following periods:

Autumn 2024: 2024-08-15 until 2024-12-15
Spring 2025: 2025-01-07 until 2025-06-04

What you need to do to receive the grant, in short:

  • Complete and submit the internal application form, signed by your nearest manager
  • Complete and submit a Staff Mobility for Teaching - Mobility Agreement (which is to be signed by the receiving university regarding the specific plans for your exchange)
  • Send your plane tickets to the Erasmus officer (if you wish to receive the travel grant)
  • Complete and submit the online survey after the exchange
  • Send Certificate of Attendance to the Erasmus Officer

Please note that you application must be submitted no later than 4 weeks before your planned departure and that only complete applications will be taken into consideration.

Doctoral students

Doctoral students, employed at HB, can participate in Erasmus+ staff mobility for teaching.

Selection criteria

The selection is based on first come, first served. If there are more applicants than funds, those who have not taken part in the Erasmus programme before will be prioritised.

If you want to go on a staff training exchange instead, you may apply for an Erasmus+ grant for staff training.
