Parental leave with parental benefit
Planning this leave
In accordance with the Parental Leave Act, you are entitled to full parental leave until your child is 18 months old. Such leave may be divided into a maximum of three periods for each calendar year. In addition to this, you are entitled to leave during the time you receive parental benefit. If for any reason you would like to take a break in this leave, you are entitled to do so. However, you must notify your employer as soon as possible, who, depending on the circumstances, may postpone your return to work for up to one month. You must also plan this year's holiday leave when you apply for parental leave. You cannot be have leave with parental benefit while you are on holiday leave.
Parental benefit supplement
The university has a local collective agreement on parental benefit supplement. This means that for 360 days, up until the child is 18 months old, 10% of your calendar day salary is automatically paid to the same extent as parental leave with parental benefit is taken. The days, thus, qualify for holiday pay.
If additional parental leave with parental benefit is taken after the child has reached 18 months, no parental benefit supplement is paid. During full-time leave, holiday leave is reduced.
Birth of a child
The parent who is not pregnant can receive compensation for 10 days off in connection with the birth of the child. The days will provide the opportunity to be present at the birth, get to know the child, and take care of other children in the family.
The ten working days must be used within 60 days of the child’s coming home from the hospital.
Care of an ill child
A temporary parental benefit is paid to you when do not work in order to care for a child who is unwell (vård av barn or VAB). For ten days a year, the employer pays 80% of the salary components that exceed the basic amount’s ceiling. Remember to report your absence by using the following routine.
Parental leave without compensation from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency
You have the right to be on parental leave part-time. Such leave can be granted until, at a maximum, the end of the school year of the year that the child turns 12 years old.
Leave planning
Leave must primarily be taken at the beginning or end of working hours, but can also be taken on certain days of the week. Leave must not be interrupted for holiday leave. Leave planning must be done in consultation between you and your manager. Your wishes as a parent weigh heavily, as the reason for the leave is to spend time with your child, but at the same time, university operations must function. If you and your manager do not agree, it is the manager who decides how the leave is to be planned. The manager must then notify your trade union organisation no later than two weeks before the start of the leave.
