Use of the university's network
As an employee/student at the University of Borås, you receive a user identity so you can access the university's network. Your user identity is personal and can only be used by you, i.e. you cannot give/loan it to anyone else. For employees, this user identity is active for as long as you are employed by the university and for one additional month. As a student, your user identity is active for about 15 months after your last registration. During the lifetime of the identity, you are authorised to access the systems you need in your role within the university.
How the network may be used
You must comply with Sweden's laws and regulations and SUNET's ethical rules. This code of ethics considers the following to be unethical:
- trying to access network resources without having the right to do so
- trying to hide user identity
- attempting to interfere with or interrupt the intended use of the networks
- clearly wasting available resources (personnel, hardware, or software)
- attempting to damage or destroy computer-based information
- invading the privacy of others
- attempting to insult or humiliate other users
SUNET also has other rules, including regarding security, which you are obliged to follow. These can be seen at sunet.se (external link)
The university's network is considered open, which means that there is a risk of your traffic being intercepted by unauthorised persons. Sensitive information being transmitted over the network should therefore be protected in an appropriate manner, for example by encryption.
Protecting your data
An employee member or student who has been given a digital identity must always protect that identity and must not disclose their details such as passwords or other login methods to any other person. If you suspect that an unauthorised person has had access to your account or your login details, you must report this promptly to it@hb.se.
Passwords
Passwords should be of good quality and changed sufficiently frequently. They should be personal and kept secret. Your password should consist of a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters. Remember not to use å, ä or ö. Good password quality means:
- No words that can be found in a dictionary and no personal names, etc.
- Nothing else otherwise easily recognisable, e.g. QWERTY, your car registration, etc.
- For example, a good password can be a "misspelled" word and/or have numbers embedded in it.
- Passwords used for university services may not be used for services outside the university.
Password requirements
- The password must be at least 8 characters long and consist of:
- At least one digit
- At least one lower case letter
- At least one capital letter
- Special characters
Provision of online services
Server services such as file sharing programs and/or own equipment may only be connected to the university network with the consent of the IT department. Internet access for one’s own computer is available via a special guest network. Your computer must be updated and virus-free before connecting to the university network.
Traffic logging
When you decide to use the university's network, you agree that the traffic on the network be logged and that these logs be reviewed by network security officers at the IT department.
In case of violation of these rules
Anyone who breaks the above rules may be suspended from the university's network. In addition, disciplinary or legal action may be taken.
