All doctoral programmes are based in established educational and research environments with strong connections to society and industry.
Doctoral education is a vital part of the university’s mission. As a doctoral student – the term used for someone pursuing doctoral studies – you contribute to the university’s research. Doctoral education is the highest level of education and prepares you for a career in research and development, both within and outside academia.
The programme normally comprises 240 higher education credits, equivalent to four years of full-time study. It consists of a thesis project and an individually tailored course package that supports the thesis work. Each doctoral student is assigned a principal supervisor and at least one assistant supervisor. Each doctoral programme is described and regulated in a general syllabus (ASP), and the student’s progress is planned and monitored through an individual study plan (ISP).
The University of Borås generally offers doctoral students a doctoral studentship. These positions are always advertised on our website under "Work with us." A doctoral student may also be externally funded, referred to as a collaborative doctoral student.
Degree from another university
The University of Borås also has doctoral students in other areas where we currently do not have our own degree-awarding powers, such as Informatics, Business Administration, and Education. In these cases, doctoral education is conducted in collaboration with other universities.
