Our organisation
The University of Borås, located in southwestern Sweden, is divided into the following Faculties: The Faculty of Librarianship, Information, Education and IT, The Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business, The Faculty of Caring Science, Work Life and Social Welfare, and the Faculty of Police Work. The University of Borås was founded in 1977.
The renowned Swedish School of Textiles and Swedish School of Library and Information Science are a part of the University of Borås, both of which host educational programmes and research.
Science Park Borås is also a part of the university; it is a national leader when it comes to addressing issues of sustainability and consumption.

Our students
We have around 19,000 students. We offer a wide range of academic programmes and courses, some of which are entirely unique to the University of Borås and thus attract students from all parts of Sweden and the world. We have over 60 educational programmes in subjects such as Business, Library and Information Science, Engineering and Technology, IT, and Textiles and Fashion.

Our doctoral education
We offer well-regarded doctoral education programmes in Resource Recovery, Library and Information Science, Textiles and Fashion (both general and artistic), Textile Technology, Textile Management, as well as Caring Science in the area of Human Perspective in Care. We also educate doctoral candidates in collaboration with other higher education institutions, e.g. within Business and IT as well as Teacher Education and Educational Work.

Our research
Our research makes a difference. Six prioritised areas based on our educational programmes as well as the surrounding society guide our research. We also have a number of research centres: Centre for Digitalisation, Centre for Sustainable Society Development, Centre for Cultural Policy Research, Centre for Welfare Studies, INCLUDE – Centre for Inclusive Studies, and PreHospen – Centre for Prehospital Research.

Our city
Our main campus is located in downtown Borås in southwestern Sweden: a lovely city that is surrounded by nature. We enjoy a rich cultural life, colourful street art, and excellent sports and outdoor recreation opportunities.
