When the little goatling learned his numbers, he counted all his animal friends, and they are at first absolutely frightened. Is it dangerous to be counted or can there be a benefit to it?  Björn Hammarfelt, new professor at the Swedish School of Library and Information Science in Borås, will in his inaugural lecture take as a starting point a classic fairy tale that is fitting for his research focus.    

A new research project aims to redefine the boundaries of textile design by exploring connections between textiles, insects, and indigenous knowledge. Can this approach help humans reconnect with nature? This is what Svenja Keune, a researcher at the Swedish School of Textiles, will investigate over three years in collaboration with Asya Ilgün, researcher from the University of Graz and Kuai Shen, multi-media artist and researcher from Germany.

The University of Borås and TEKO, the Swedish trade and employers’ association for companies working in the textile and fashion industry, through the Swedish Textile Research Foundation, SST, is jointly investing in a new research project at the Swedish School of Textiles. Within the framework of the project, large amounts of data will be collected from the textile value chain and then analysed with the help of new AI tools.

What should be done with all the wood and plastic waste? This has been investigated by Supriyanto, a doctoral student in the research area Resource Recovery at the University of Borås. In his thesis, he shows that it is possible to extract significant amounts of valuable substances, which in turn can constitute raw materials for the production of new products, such as fuels and valuable chemicals.
