Welcome to the course “Textile Constructions for Composite Materials”!
This course explores the rapidly growing field of textile composites, which combine polymer matrices with textile reinforcements. Textile reinforcements are highly versatile, with options including 2D and 3D woven fabrics, braided, knitted, and nonwoven structures. These reinforcements are critical in designing advanced composite structures with optimized performance.
In this course, you will learn the fundamental concepts of composite technology, specifically focusing on textile reinforcements and their structure and manufacturing processes. We will cover advanced 2D and 3D manufacturing techniques for textile reinforcements and explore how different textile structures influence composite properties. The course includes a mix of theoretical lectures, assignments, and presentations.
We will begin with an introductory lecture, and throughout the course, we will reference Miravete, A. (1999). 3-D Textile Reinforcements in Composite Materials (Woodhead Publishing) as the core literature. However, we will also introduce you to the latest advancements in textile composite technology through additional articles and resources.
Looking forward to an exciting journey into the world of textile composites!
You are always welcome to contact the course coordinator if you have any questions.
